Composed by a former A-6 crew member (who spent many happy flight hours with the aircraft), the nostalgic, cool video in this post reminds us that the Intruder was a no-nonsense, payload carrying, bomb droppin’, ass kickin’ machine.
The Grumman A-6 Intruder was the ‘Main Battery’ of carrier aviation throughout the Vietnam War, and it remained in service with the US Navy and US Marine Corps (USMC) until 1996.
It represented the most capable medium attack aircraft in-theatre for the entire Vietnam conflict, being capable of striking targets with a heavy load of ordnance in almost any weather condition.
Truly an all-weather, day/night precision bomber, the A-6 was still the most potent U.S Navy / USMC strike aircraft during Operation Desert Storm (ODS) in 1991.
