Lockheed Martin is leveraging synergies between the F-22 and F-35 and developing new technologies to increase commonality and lethality on the F-22. The Link 16 transmit capabilities included in F-22 Raptor Agile Capability Release (RACR) Release 1 will enable the two-way exchange of J-series messages (Link 16) between the F-22 and other Link 16-enabled aircraft, including the F-35. Future F-22 modernization will focus on sensor, datalink, and survivability enhancements in an evolving threat environment.

In April 2020 the Air Combat Command (ACC) authorized the release and fielding of the F-22 Update 6 Operational Flight Program (OFP) for incorporation into the Increment 3.2B Block 30/35 modification line. The F-22 Increment 3.2B Update 6 Block 30/35 modification line has been expanded last summer to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.
