Quite what Iceman (signature quote: “You are dangerous!”) will be up to this time remains a mystery
It’s been more than 30 years since Val Kilmer played the role of Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky in the 1986 film Top Gun.
On Wednesday, The Wrap confirmed that the 58-year-old actor will reprise his role in the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick.
Quite what Iceman (signature quote: “You are dangerous!”) will be up to this time remains a mystery, though anyone who has watched the original will know – spoiler alert for a 32-year-old movie – that Iceman’s attitude towards Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell warmed considerably when he helped save the squad’s lives from enemy planes.
According Daily Mail, back in 2015, Val ‘jumped the topgun,’ when he revealed on Facebook that he was offered a role in Top Gun: Maverick.
‘Offered #topgun2 — not often you get to say ‘yes’ without reading the script…’ he said.
He then added: ‘This is a long way off so calm down. This has been talked about for a long long time and being offered a role is very different from doing a role.
‘I jumped the gun with my post. I jumped the topgun…an innocent mistake. It was just such a wonderful phone call with my agent.’
As we have recently reported Tom Cruise teased the start of filming on the long-awaited Top Gun sequel on May 31, 2018 with a tweet featuring an image of an older Capt. Pete Mitchell standing in a flight suit with his famous HGU-33 helmet (that wore to fly his F-14A Tomcat) in hand.
Curiously the fighter aircraft shown in the of the photo of new promo is an F/A-18F Super Hornet and not the F-35C Lightning II that many predicted would star in the film.
Top Gun: Maverick is slated to hit theaters on July 12, 2019.
