Taken at RAF Fairford during Royal International Air Show 2019 airshow, the cool video in this post features a comparison between the breathtaking displays performed by Finnish Air Force and Swiss Air Force F/A-18C Hornet strike fighters.
Which is the best F/A-18C display in your opinion?
From the clip it seems that Finnish Hornet is better in pulling G’s, while the Swiss F/A-18C is more into spin+yaw+roll manoeuvring at low speed.
Plus the Finnish pilot could be see waving at 3:17 in the footage.
Anyway we think that the real winner is the F/A-18 Hornet which has performed exceedingly well over the years.
By watching at this video, we can’t help but think of Dos Gringos song “I wish I had a gun just like the A-10” where it says:
“Oh I wish I had the Alpha of a Hornet! Living to fight slow while others scorn it! And when I can still pitch and roll that other fellows out of control! Oh I wish I had the Alpha of a Hornet”
Noteworthy the first A/B Hornet model entered service with the US Navy in 1983. The A/B evolved into the C/D Hornet in the 1980s. The F/A-18C and D models are the result of a block upgrade in 1987 incorporating provisions for employing updated missiles and jamming devices against enemy ordnance. C and D models delivered since 1989 also include an improved night attack capability.
Today the Hornet comprises the aviation strike force for seven foreign customers including Canada, Australia, Finland, Kuwait, Malaysia, Spain and Switzerland.
The newer Super Hornet builds on the F/A-18’s reputation as the US Navy’s safest and most reliable tactical carrier aircraft, and the service has recognized it as a model acquisition program.
