Taken on Feb. 26, 2019 the cool photos in this post features U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft assigned to the 442nd Fighter Wing, Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, escorting MV-22B Osprey assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 268, Hawaii.
U.S. Marines with Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment and VMM-268 along with A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft conducted training consisting of a simulated tactical recovery of aircraft personnel scenario and a combat search and rescue (CSAR) scenario.
As shown in these pictures the A-10 Thunderbolt II has excellent maneuverability at low air speeds and altitude, and is a highly accurate and survivable weapons-delivery platform. The aircraft can loiter near battle areas for extended periods of time and operate in low ceiling and visibility conditions.
The wide combat radius and short takeoff and landing capability permit operations in and out of locations near front lines.
Using night vision goggles, A-10 pilots can conduct their missions during darkness.
