70th E-2D Advanced Hawkeye delivered to the US Navy

Northrop Grumman has delivered the 70th E-2D Advanced Hawkeye to the US Navy, demonstrating steady production momentum and continued collaboration with the Navy and industry partners.

Janice Zilch, vice president and program manager, E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, Northrop Grumman, said in a company news release: “E-2D deliveries demonstrate our commitment to quality and performance with speed and scale, supporting those who operate and maintain this platform. We’re seeing the Advanced Hawkeye’s exceptional performance in today’s operational environments, and we’re actively planning its future advancements.”

Northrop Grumman has produced a total of 82 E-2D Advanced Hawkeyes for the US Navy and Japan Air Self-Defense Force to date. The company continuously modernizes the E-2D to meet evolving mission requirements driven by lessons learned from today’s operations.

The “8th Wonder of the World”

The system is purpose-built for airborne early warning and battle management, capabilities that are deliberately enhanced to maintain air superiority now and decades to come.

This milestone a testament to our ongoing commitment to strengthening deterrence and advancing global battle integration. Dubbed the “8th Wonder of the World,” by former CENTCOM commander, General Kurilla, the E-2D empowers our forces with unmatched situational awareness and asymmetric capabilities. Bottom line, the E-2D ensures readiness for any mission.

From remote, austere locations to the most advanced airfields, the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye provides exceptional airborne early warning and battle management capabilities that enhance joint and coalition operations and ensure air superiority. E-2D is a versatile airborne command node that connects joint and allied forces into a unified network. Equipped with an advanced 360-degree radar and powerful mission, data and communications systems, it delivers real-time data and communications to dominate across domains and missions.

The newest variant of the E-2 aircraft

The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye (AHE) is the newest variant of the E-2 aircraft platform. It features a state-of-the-art radar with a two-generation leap in capability and upgraded aircraft systems that will improve supportability and increase readiness.

It is the world’s premier Airborne Command & Control aircraft, effective over land and sea. Northrop Grumman has evolved the E-2D into a cutting-edge platform, capable of facing threats anywhere in the world.

The E-2D features a state-of-the-art radar with a two-generation leap in capability and upgraded aircraft systems that will improve supportability and increase readiness. Key E-2D objectives include improved battle space target detection and situational awareness, especially in the littorals; support of Theater Air Missile Defense (TAMD) operations; and improved operational availability.

The E-2D reached IOC in October 2014, and the US Navy continues to invest in future capabilities to support command and control requirements for the strike group and the entire force.

E-2 variants are operated by air forces and navies around the world. With an active production line and a 100% on-time delivery history, the E-2D continues to introduce new technology to outpace ever-evolving threats.
